The iberian lynx is europe’s most endangered mammal, with only a few hundred individuals remaining. Spain now has very little habitat for this small carnivore which is deeply threated not only by the loss of its habitat, but also by the deadly fragmentation caused by roads and highways, the speeding cars on which are the biggest killer of the lynx.

For this work, i contacted spanish activist and model maría josé, who readily agreed that i could paint her body as a dying lynx. The setting was a small road north of doñana national park in southern spain, one of the few remaining strongholds for this endemic species.
